This is exactly what happened to me at the end of 2015… 

Visual Snow Syndrome and Its Relationship to Tinnitus

At the time I had never heard of visual snow; I went through several appointments with an ophthalmologist and then a neurologist, and even had an MRI. No one came up with any cause for the issues and I eventually found out on my own (using Google-fu) what it was.

It was interesting to watch this video and hear him describe all of the same bizarre symptoms.
