Wow, it’s been almost a month since I blogged anything and I feel a bit guilty, but it’s been a pretty rough month (lots of work-related stress) and I know from previous experience that if I try to force things and blog when I don’t really feel like it, all that comes out is a string of rambling nonsense. Kind of like that run-on sentence I just inflicted on readers. 😉
So what have I been doing with my downtime, you might ask? The answer would be ‘coloring.’ A friend of mine, who I have since cursed for destroying my productivity, turned me on to a little app called Happy Color and I may be slightly obsessed.
I have coloring books, and have tried coloring apps, but the former are hard on my hands and both are not as relaxing as they could be because I overthink the color choices and it often creates a sort of decision paralysis. This app, on the other hand, is color by numbers. All I have to do is choose a numbered color and peck at all of the areas with that number. It’s strangely addictive, I think because it lets my brain shut off a bit. The mandalas are the best, because the colors are in predictable places.
Some of the pictures are very complex, others are really simple, and although sometimes the color schemes aren’t really to my taste, the simplicity of not having to think about color choice outweighs my desire to control the color scheme. There’s a meditative quality to it, and a satisfaction in completing each piece.
So yeah… That’s what I’ve been up to. Coloring. And not even real coloring, just picking out little boxes on my phone screen. 😀 And it’s keeping me sane while I am surrounded by dumpster fires (not of my making) at work.
